A patient came to see me the other day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And it\u2019s fair to say it\u2019s been a while since he went to the dentist.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Not because he\u2019s scared or nervous, but \u2013 like so many of us \u2013 life had just got in the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\u2019d been busy with work, he\u2019d started a young family, and of course, the whole pandemic threw a curveball in there too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What made him finally come in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Unfortunately, it was a severely broken tooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And as much as I\u2019d like to say that we fixed it, the sad truth is that we couldn\u2019t \u2013 it\u2019s gone too far to save, and it now needs to be removed; he\u2019ll also need a few other treatments to get his mouth back up to where he wants it to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, importantly, there\u2019s no judgment or criticism from us \u2013 we totally understand the multitude of reasons why you might fall out of the habit of coming to the dentist, and we aren\u2019t going to stand here and shake our heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, this little story does highlight the danger of waiting till something goes really wrong before seeking help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The reality is that these issues would have been preventable, with regular dental visits, and the overall cost far, far lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This patient isn\u2019t alone \u2013 over the years we\u2019ve seen countless patients whose issues could have been stopped at source with regular dental and hygienist checkups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There\u2019s a saying that goes, \u201cListen to your body when it whispers, so you won\u2019t have to hear it scream\u201d<\/em>, and it\u2019s definitely applicable to dentistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you know someone that has a little niggle, or a slightly sensitive tooth, do them a favour and give them a nudge: you may help them avoid needing to go through extensive and expensive treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ketan<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A patient came to see me the other day.
