“I’m very nervous usually about coming to the dentist. Sedation has been wonderful for me, I can honestly say that from the minute I walked into the practice until afterwards, absolutely no fear at all, no pain. I didn’t even know anything was being done, so for me absolutely fantastic.”

Sedation

What is dental sedation?

Sedation is given intravenously, bringing you comfort and helping you to relax during your dental treatment.

It differs to a general anaesthetic – you’re not technically asleep, but you’ll experience comfort and relaxation to the extent where you might actually fall asleep; most patients remember little about the treatment once its finished.

In order to sedate you, there’s one small needle to the back of your hand or arm, and that’s it – no more pain, allowing you to lie back, relax and get the work you need done.

The process is extremely safe, and during the entire appointment you will be closely monitored by our highly experienced team members.

Following your treatment, you may feel drowsy and/or lightheaded for a few hours – for most people, effects will have worn off within 24 hours.

If you are being sedated for your treatment, it’s important you have someone to take you home after your visit, and for the rest of the day, you won’t be able to drink alcohol, drive or work machinery.

“It’s been very, very welcoming simply because I didn’t realise I was in the dentist seat. Without the sedation, I wouldn’t have been able to sit quietly in the chair at all. I get put to sleep and then I wake up and the treatment is done and I am so happier that I didn’t take part in it.”
