Smile of the Month – from phobia and fear to feeling fine

July’s Smile of the Month is here, and it’s a really special one, because in one story, it encapsulates so much about the Brightside ethos and way of doing things.

The hero of the story?  Trevor.

Trevor first came to us having avoided visiting the dentist for 8 years.

The reason?  Fear.

Sadly, Trevor had had bad experiences in the past, leaving him with a real phobia of needles.

Over time, his teeth had deteriorated, with a number of them broken, but the fear was real, present and stopping him from getting the help he needed.

But then, one day, he smiled at his granddaughter, and she ran away from him, and this was the catalyst Trevor needed to take action.

Having seen a video from one of our former nervous patients about her experience with Brightside, he had confidence that we understood his situation and would look after him, so he got in touch.

Just a few days later, he was in the practice, having a detailed assessment with our oral surgeon Shahrokh, and together they came up with a treatment plan, deciding to remove Trevor’s few remaining teeth that were failing. With that work complete, Dr Shahrokh then added dental implants and a bridge, restoring Trevor’s lower jaw, with a denture for the upper.

In just over a year, Trevor went from phobia and fear to feeling fine, with a smile he can feel happy with and a granddaughter who no longer runs away. Click below to hear Trevor’s thoughts in his own words:

And importantly for us (and Trevor!), the process was smooth and fully comfortable at every stage, and that experience has given him confidence to keep up his regular dental assessments, and ensure he keeps his mouth happy and healthy on an ongoing basis.

If you’re a nervous patient, I can assure you that you’ll be well looked after here at Brightside – we’ve helped hundreds of people like you, and specialise in calm, gentle and pain-free dentistry.
