Should I Have Botox or Fillers

This is the second part in our three part series on facial rejuvenation treatment.  Below, we answer the most commonly asked questions we receive about these treatments

Q.      Is Botox painful?

A.      No.  Most people report very little, if none discomfort.  It is described “like a little scratch”.

Q.      Are Dermal Fillers painful?

A.      It depends on the area being treated.  A topical numbing agent or ice can be applied to the treatment area 20mins prior to your procedure to help reduce discomfort.  You may experience a few days of mild swelling.

Q.      Can Botox and Dermal Fillers be used in combination at the same treatment?

A.      Yes, they are often used in combination and at the same treatment, which could produce great results.

Q.      Who should not use Botox or Dermal Fillers?

A.                     Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding

Have neuromuscular disorders

Medical conditions that lower the body’s immune responses

Individuals undergoing immunosuppressive therapies

Allergy to Botox or Dermal Fillers.

Q.      Will Botox will leave me with a frozen face?

A.      Once the results are visible, you can still smile and frown without the wrinkles and creases.  Botox gives you a soft, fresh look.

Q.      How long will the results last?

A.        For Botox  up to 4 months

For Dermal Fillers –  6  – 9 months

Q.      Are Dermal Fillers and Botox permanently in the body?

A.      No.  The body will absorb these substances.

Q.      Could I get the treatment done cheaper elsewhere?

A.      You may well find cheaper alternatives.  It is important to be comfortable with who is carrying out the procedure for you.  At Brightside Dental, you will be seen by a highly experienced dentist who has undergone additional training in facial aesthetics and we only use the highest quality products to achieve the best result for you.

Q.      How long do the injectable procedures take?

A.      Many of the procedures are performed quickly ranging from 15 mins to 30 mins depending on how many treatment areas.

Q.      What should I do before my procedure?

A.       One week prior to your procedure, avoid taking aspirin, NSAIDs, St John’s Wort, fish oils and high doses of  Vitamin E supplements as these agents may increase bleeding and bruising at the injection site.

Q.      What should I do after the procedure?

A.       Immediately after treatment, the most common side effect reported is temporary redness and swelling at injection site.

Cold compresses may be used to reduce swelling which usually resolve after 1 – 3 days.

Avoid touching the area for 6 hours after treatment
